The Brazilian transactional market recorded the largest number of deals in the last 12 months; 32,8% more than the recorded average between May 2012 and April 2013. The investment volume was approximately BRL 14,5bn; 19,67% lower than in April, taking into account deals with disclosed value.

This month's largest deal involved the shipping subsector. Italy-based group Fincantieri acquired a 51% stake in Estaleiro STX Promar, held by South Korean company STX Offshore & Shipbuilding. The deal value was BRL 1,40bn. The shipyard is located in the industrial port of Suape, Pernambuco. Estaleiro STX Promar won an auction held by Transpetro to build 8 gas carrier ships, with estimated delivery for 2014, valued at BRL 120,7m each.
Regarding cross-border deals, US-based acquirers were once again the most active, with 12 acquisitions, followed by Japan and Chile, with 2 acquisitions each.
