In Colombia the number of M&A transactions grows but their added value falls

In August, only seven operations were registered for US$8.37 million, the lowest figure registered in the last 12 months

The transactions of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) in Latin America, cut to August, presented a strong contraction compared to the same period last year. In the first eight months of 2022, 2,184 operations were carried out, which represents a drop of 8%, which totaled US$69,780 million, that is, a reduction of 34.1% compared to 2021.

This is shown by the most recent Transactional Track Record (TTR), which also reflects an increase of 6.54% in transactions in Colombia, which reached 163 so far this year, and a decrease of 17.56% in the capital mobilized, amounting to US$7,491 million. Of these, 150 (92%) have already been completed and half have a public value.

If the data is analyzed by type of operation, the segment of M&A leads with 75 transactions (of which 65 have already been closed) for an aggregate amount of US$5,910 million. It is followed by the category of Venture Capital, which contributes 64 operations for US$1,063 million; and Private Equity and Asset Acquisition complete the list, both segments with 12 transactions and aggregate amounts of US$366 million and US$151 million, respectively.
