M&A market in Spain grows 2% in 2024

The Spanish transactional market has registered up to November a total of 2,939 deals with an aggregate amount of €89,764 million, according to TTR Data’s monthly report. These figures represent a 2% growth in the number of transactions, as well as an increase of approximately 20% in the capital mobilized, compared to the same period in 2023.

As for November, a total of 220 mergers and acquisitions, between announced and closed, were recorded in the month, for an aggregate amount of approximately €6,930 million. In terms of sectors, the real estate sector was the most active of the year, with a total of 551 transactions, followed by the internet, software and IT services sector, with 277.

The ranking of legal advisors, by number of transactions, is led by Cuatrecasas, with 159 deals, followed by Garrigues, with 148 transactions. In terms of value, Uría Menéndez and Garrigues, with €30,811m and €30,093m, respectively, led the ranking for the year.

Cross-Border

With regard to the cross-border market, Spanish companies have chosen Portugal and the United States as their main investment destinations, up to November. Respectively, with 65 and 56 transactions.

The countries with the highest number of investments in Spain, are the United States and France. With 197 and 174 transactions, respectively. By amount, the United States stands out, with EUR 12,366 million.

Private Equity, Venture Capital and Asset Acquisitions

Up to November, a total of 377 private equity transactions for €25,531 million have been recorded. This represents a decrease of approximately 1% in the number of transactions. Also, a growth of approximately 40% in the amount of transactions, compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the venture capital market, 541 transactions with an aggregate amount of 3,093m euros were completed. This means a decrease of approximately 13% in the number of transactions and a decrease of approximately 6% in the amount of transactions, year-on-year.

In the asset acquisitions segment, 783 transactions were recorded for an aggregate amount of €12,829m. On a year-on-year basis, this represents a decrease of approximately 1% in the number of transactions. And also, an increase of approximately 63% in the amount of transactions,
