Venture capital flows in Latin America, but slower

Welcome to rounds of the week. Some startups are challenging the crisis of venture capital, derived from the fall in the stock market of large technology companies, such is the case of Bankme, Medu Protection, Menta and Efinti, which this week announced that they closed rounds at an early stage.

Experts in venture capital had already warned, investors will be more cautious and will bet only on the best business models, as the weeks go by it has been noticed that the investment rounds are taking time to fall.

This is not just a perception, the drop in investments in venture capital is supported by data. Recently, the Association for Private Capital Investment in Latin America (LAVCA) announced the 19.4% collapse in the first half of this year, since the first six months of 2022 US$5.4 billion were invested in risk capital , against US$6.7 billion in the same period of 2021.

While the Transactional Track Record (TTR) calculations indicate that US$2,426 million dollars were invested in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the US$5,353 million that were invested in the same period of 2021, a record year in investment. The fall it reports is 54.7%.

The capital will be smaller, but more selective and will be invested in startups whose business models have real opportunities to scale. This week these are the emerging companies that raised capital in Latin America.
